The Federal e-petition to save the City of Adelaide hosted on this web-site has been featured as one of twenty examples of Australian petitions in a new gallery at Old Parliament House in Canberra.
In May 2009, Old Parliament House in Canberra launched exciting new exhibitions and programs dedicated to the topic of Australian Democracy. This initiative, funded by the Federal Government in 2006, established Old Parliament House as a significant cultural institution exploring the history and culture of Australian Democracy.
One of the new galleries in development, Living Democracy: the power of the people, examines the role of citizen-led reform, grassroots democracy and a range of social movements. Living Democracy focuses on how citizens make their voices heard, and will include the vibrant tradition of presenting petitions to parliament.
A central section of this exhibition explores twenty examples of Australian petitions - from the 19th Century to e-petitions - and the Federal e-petition to save the City of Adelaide is used as an example of the newest form of petitioning.
