Passenger and Crew Lists

Twenty three times the City of Adelaide set sail from England to bring passengers to South Australia. She made more visits to the fledgling colony than any other vessel before or since.

The various links will take you to pages containing passenger lists, cargo manifests, shipping intelligence reports and other useful information relating to each of her voyages to South Australia. There is also a page where you can register yourself as a descendant.

Many of the records come from newspaper reports of her arrivals. These reports are testimony to the importance of the City to the people of South Australia and to the high regard in which her masters and crew were held, both by the public and passengers alike.

In these web pages you will find:

  • Research and calculations that show a quarter of a million South Australians today are descendants of passengers on the City of Adelaide.
  • Surnames listed alphabetically of passengers who sailed on the City of Adelaide along with which years they arrived at their destination. (Currently only London to Adelaide voyages are included, but the search engine can be used to find passengers travelling in either direction.)
  • Passenger lists by year.
  • Shipping Intelligence Reports and other information available for some voyages.
  • List of companies who transported goods on the City of Adelaide.
  • A registry for recording yourself as an ancestor of one of the passengers or crew of the City of Adelaide.
  • A search engine to find names of passengers who sailed on the City of Adelaide along with which years they arrived at their destination.
