'City of Adelaide'

This page broadly describes our planned approach for the project to bring the City of Adelaide clipper ship back to the South Australia. It is anticipated that these details will be further refined during detailed design and planning. They are dependent on a detailed site survey as well as the equipment and methods ultimately used.

The plans are presented using a Work Breakdown Structure, which is a fundamental project management technique for defining and organising the total scope of a project, using a hierarchical tree structure.

The project is broken down into a series of Phases.    Each phase is then broken down into a series of Stages.

The high level phases are:

• Phase 1: Remove the clipper from the slipway.
• Phase 2: Transport the clipper to South Australia.
• Phase 3: Preparations to receive the clipper in South Australia.

Present Slipway Arrangement

Phase 1 - Remove the Clipper from the Slipway

The objective of this phase is to remove the clipper from the slipway and move her onto a barge.    The stages within this Phase are:

1.1    Technical Preparations - development of detailed plans and drawings for subsequent stages of project.

1.2    Cradle - construct the transportation cradle for subsequent lifting and transporting of clipper.

1.3    Clipper - prepare the clipper for moving.

1.4    Slipway - remove bund and dredge in way of slipway.

Prepare Road Base

1.5    Barge - land on sill and ballast down barge.

Bring in Barge

1.6    Transfer - push transporters and clipper with prime movers on to barge.

Transfer Clipper

1.7    Towage - deballast barge and tow barge and clipper to an Irvine wharf, pontoon or other interim location while awaiting dockship/heavy-lift ship.
