David Webb South Australia Brompton The ship is part of the history of South Australia which will be lost forever if it is not returned to Adelaide and restored to it's former glory. 50.00 AUD
Jamie Varacalli South Australia As a BA graduate (English Lit / History) and currently an English (Lit) honours candidate at The University of Adelaide specialising in travel narratives (currently Victorian/Edwardian Orientalism), I have been following this story with great interest in the media. I would like to hope that government funding is forthcoming. The City of Adelaide has the potential to become a massive tourist attraction (locally and internationally) in the tradition of the Cutty Sark. The romance and adventure of ocean travel will always be of personal and academic interest, even when our grandchildren are flying to the moon. This is a most worthy project.

David Addison Australia Basket Range, South Australia My son, Jon, was Curator at the Scottish Maritime Museum from 2004 to 2007. We saw the ship in 2005 and the aim then was to destroy it. Jon can be contacted at the Queen Victoria Museum in Launceston, Tasmania where he is Curator of History. I was the Project Manager for the One and All. So although now retired, I would love to see the clipper back in Port Adelaide. Unfortunately, it's a matter of money, big money. 20.00 AUD

Michael Clayton United Kingdom Scotland The 'City of Adelaide' is not only a significant part of the history and foundation of South Australia but should be a permanent link between Australia and Britain. Hugh Howell Australia Captains Flat, NSW We must preserve this heritage. I still remember my visit to the Cutty Sark as a small boy in the 1950's and how it inspired me. Imagine a child of tomorrow remembering their visit to the "City of Adelaide" and being similarly inspired. 100.00 AUD
Gary Trevean Australian Capital Territory Heard about this on the ABC this morning. Fully support this. Get her back and restored. This heritage should not be lost. 50.00 AUD
Ben Adamson Victoria 10.00 AUD
Ian Bremner-Macdonald Australia Wagga Wagga, New South Wales There is so little of our heritage which survives. We cannot allow this link to disappear. Commercial development has been responsible for so much destruction in the name of "progress" when progress should be measured by the understanding of who we are and from where we have come.

As one who is proud of his heritage and from a pioneer family of South Australia, I am saddened that there could be any doubt about the preservation of this piece of our history.

I hope that the "City of Adelaide" and all who have sailed in her will be remembered well into the future. She must survive.

Mr Mark Storm Australia Mildura I am in deep admiration at your efforts to preserve (and possibly acquire) this beautiful, historically-important ship. As an ex South Australian I would very much like to see the City Of Adelaide fully restored and proudly located at the docks of Port Adelaide for future generations to enjoy. Please, maintain all your wonderful efforts to save this (once) magnificent and worthy vessel. 50.00 AUD
Peter Morrison United Kingdom London I will separately email on my affinity with the struggle to save the City of Adelaide. I also have pilotage planning papers and video left by my late father Capt. AJS Morrison. - Dad was the Master of the "Carrick", as it was named then, for the precarious move out of Glasgow to Princess Dock.
- I shared Dad's passionate conviction that the 'Carrick' has to be saved, but having worked overseas until fairly recently, I hadn't appreciated the dire state of affairs.

Going back two centuries of migration to Australia, back to the First Fleet, this is one of only two sailing ships survivors and it is the only passenger ship. She must be saved. 50.00 AUD

Newsflash

NEW! - We now have over 1,000 crew records on-line.

On 6th August 1864 the brand-new City of Adelaide left the Thames docklands of central London to sail for South Australia with her passengers, 100 tons of coal, 11,300 items of general cargo (bales, cases, casks, packages and bundles) - and a crew of 38 men ... Read more >>
