The Federal e-petition to save the City of Adelaide on this web-site is planned to be featured as one of twenty examples of Australian petitions in a new gallery at Old Parliament House in Canberra.
In May 2009, Old Parliament House in Canberra will launch exciting new exhibitions and programs dedicated to the topic of Australian Democracy. This initiative, funded by the Federal Government in 2006, will establish Old Parliament House as a significant cultural institution exploring the history and culture of Australian Democracy.
One of the new galleries in development, Living Democracy: the power of the people, examines the role of citizen-led reform, grassroots democracy and a range of social movements. Living Democracy focuses on how citizens make their voices heard, and will include the vibrant tradition of presenting petitions to parliament.
A central section of this exhibition will explore twenty examples of Australian petitions - from the 19th Century to e-petitions - and it is planned to feature the Federal e-petition to save the City of Adelaide as an example of the newest form of petitioning.
Please revisit this website or the website at Old Parliament House closer to May for further details.
